The subject has as objective that learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed for facing the teaching - learning process of foreign language teaching, particularly referred to Cuban context for language teaching, learners´need analysis, objective, content and approach for language teaching, activities planning for teaching vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

The subject presents theoretical and mostly practical content and activities aimed to improve their writing abilities, especially when writing an essay, and to master the structure, characteristics, comprehension and writing of scientific texts. It is divided into 2 units. Each of them contained the information and practical exercises about the topic with printed and audiovisual materials that support the theme. At the end of each unit there is a written evaluation that summarizes what it has been shown, practiced and learned. The student will read and practice the content of each topic, consulting later the complementary bibliography organized per theme.

The current program is based on the communicative approach integrating the basic principles of the linguistic-investigative method in order to systematize and exercise the linguistic contents.


Welcome to the subject History of the Culture of English Speaking Countries.

For those who speak English and like to teach English,  history lovers and literature readers this course is the right place to be. It provides a useful introduction to the history of the greatest country of the British Isles: England. It surveys the development  this country underwent from the first inhabitants up to the  18th century, as well as to some events that shaped   the land into the country that it is today.

 It is by showing how these peoples lived and what historical facts contributed to the formation of the language, that it aims at providing participants with the knowledge of well-known events like the Norman conquest, the One Hundred Years War, the Black Death, the War of Roses, and others that influenced other countries in terms of economic and political transformations. This course also marks to the creativity of the works of famous writers such as Geoffrey Chaucer, John Milton and William Shakespeare to frame their contributions as the reflection of the historical period.

This course invites participants to know more about monarchies, empires and some of the world’s most notorious writers and most remarkably, to know about the English language.

Introductory meeting.

This is an atypical meeting that contains general information on the course Integrated English Practice V, the general objectives of the course as well as the professional competences that the students will develop.

You will also know about the themes of the course, essential content and the peculiarities of its system of evaluation.

Meeting 1.  Third year. CPE

General information on the course Integrated English Practice V and its demands.

The course Integrated English Pracice V is taught for the students of the foreign language majoring (Education). It  constitues a very important  course  in the base curriculum  in the version remote learning (modality CPE). This subject has a total amount of 72 hours and  it belongs to the syllabus of the first semester of the school term.

The syllabus is designed with a flexible and creative perspective. It covers theoretical and practical learning tasks which will provide the  student̀s the necessary and  adequate communicative and professional competencies  for the sake of planning educative learning tasks within the teaching-learning process of the English language at any of the different subsystems of education.

 

Through the course Integrated English Practice V, the students should be able:

o   To demonstrate a level of communicative competence equivalent to independent user of the language (umbral B1)

o   To show mastery in the use of the linguistic competence (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, spelling) and language functions to teach the related aspects in the educational level in which he/she is immersed.

o   To show comprehension oral and written information related to their profession and the context in which it is developed.

o   To give solution to straightforward communicative tasks.

o   To describe basic aspects of their past and the environment in which they   are immersed.

o   To establish the basic differences between the native language and the foreign language.

o   To write essays on academic themes as well as themes of personal interest

o   To start, maintaining and ending a face to face conversation on personal topics and/ or academic topics.

o   To describe personal experiences, events, ambitions in life and hopes.

 

It is important to state the professional competences that the students will develop in this course:

1.To show mastery in the use of psychological and sociological foundations to manage the teaching-learning process providing a positive learning environment based on his/her learners´ needs to carry out an effective process.

2.To design different activities in accordance with the specifications given and the educational level in which he/she is immersed.

3.To organize different techniques to develop error correction on his/her classmates and with his/her students.

4.To anticipate behavioral problems and learning difficulties when they arise and give the adequate solution considering learners´ individualities.  

Integrated English Practice V articulates with the subjects Linguistic Studies of the English Language I and Language in Use III.

The subject is developed through themes. For that reason, some authentic materials have been included considering the linguistic level of the students. These themes favor the establishment of interdisciplinary relationship, the integration of knowledge as well as the development of a general integral culture in the students.

Essential content and abilities

The study guides must be solved taking into consideration the abilities cycle. The first ability in cycle is listening, followed by Speaking. Then, students will be reading about the topic, and finally, after familiarizing with a specific type of essay, they will be writing about an specific topic

Listening:

Content: Analysis of audio texts related to the theme of the unit for the development of active listening.

Abilities: Identify the structure of audio texts, show comprehension of the text, take notes from the audio text and identify the intention of the speaker.

 

Speaking:

Content: The structure of oral presentations.

Grammar: Systematization of symple tenses, conditional sentences, realitve clauses and passive voice.

Vocabulary: related to the themes of each unit, word forming processses (systematization)

Pronunciation: Sentence stress, word stress, rhythm, intonation,

Simple past.- ed endings. (Systematize)

Abilities: start, beging and end a conversation, strategies to restart the communicative act,  follow the strucutre of oral reports, use of posters and electronic devices to support the oral presentation.

 

 

 

Writing:

Content: the narrative essay, the argumentative essay and the problem solution essay.

Taking notes and summarize the information of orally and wirtten.

 

Abilities: Writing essays, taking notes and summarizing information.

 

Reading:

Content: Structure of the narrative, argumentative and problem solution essay.

                Errors in logical thinking in the reading text.

 

Abilities: Determine the structure of texts.

               Determine the purpose of the author.

               Determine the thesis of the essay.

 

System of evaluation

The course includes the formative and summative evaluation.

Checking study guides.

Checking oral and written tasks and activities, either for individual practice or group work.

Discussing and debating the writing of essays.
